Therefore, it is important that we obtain advice, feedback and analysis regarding the current Illinois legislative process including recent and upcoming legislation. We want to have as much information as possible to make decisions moving forward.

I am pleased to announce an addition to our upcoming seminar agenda. Former Illinois State Senator and current Government Relations Advisor for Mac Strategies Group, Matt Murphy, will join us and provide a late in-session legislative update. Matt will provide an update on all things business and budget related. In addition, we will provide our own analysis of legislation that has already been passed.

Murphy previously served as the Illinois Senate Deputy Republican Leader in the legislature earning a reputation as one of the most respected and thoughtful lawmakers in the state Capitol. First elected in 2006, he quickly established a niche as a go-to voice on budget and economic issues overall. Murphy served on some of the most impactful committees in Springfield such as the Executive Committee, Appropriations, Energy and Public Utilities, and Insurance Committees, plus the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules (JCAR).

Following the election of Governor Bruce Rauner in 2014, Murphy was consistently called upon by the administration and Senate leadership to serve on important working groups tasked with solving the state’s greatest problems. Even in Springfield’s stubbornly partisan legislative landscape, Murphy was an effective, pragmatic leader who could be relied upon to work toward bipartisan compromise on difficult issues such as the state’s budget, reforming Medicaid, modifying workers’ compensation laws, and reforming the criminal justice system.

Murphy, a licensed attorney, is actively engaged in his community, serving on the executive board for the Palatine Park District Foundation and advisory board for the Preservation of Human Dignity.
